Begins October 14, Indoors

Skill Level: Advanced Beginner and Intermediate

Tuition: $130 (Log in for membership discount price)

Description: Students will learn to remove and carve away parts of the form to create a textural design and feel. This will involve carving small sections of the form as well as the entirety of it. Students should come to class with a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 10 pre-made pieces. They should be between 6-12 inches in height. The forms may include jars, mugs, bowls, vases, etc. All pieces should be trimmed and leather hard.

Notes:

-A studio fee and firing fee are all included in tuition. Tools are not included. A materials list can be found here.

-Prerequisite: Students should have an understanding of making small to medium forms such as bowls, mugs, jars, etc.

-When making your pieces, be sure that they are thicker than usual as we will be carving the excess weight out during the workshop. There is always the possibility of cutting through the piece(s), which is why we are suggesting you bring at least 8 works.

-If you are registered for this class and would like to use the LexArt Ceramics Studio to make your pieces, you may. Please email chasejones@lexart.org for more details.

About the instructor:

Jacob Bassett is a graduate of UMass Dartmouth with a BFA in ceramics. His work focuses on wheel-thrown forms that incorporate sgraffito and carved designs, and he has worked in ceramics for five years. Outside of ceramics, he also teaches art to children from toddlers through middle schoolers through a local art studio where he took his first art class 17 years ago, at 6 years old. His current goals are to continue to grow and practice his own throwing skills, and to continuing teaching both art and ceramics, while growing his business.
