Description: 

This year, as a special opportunity, we’ll look at the holiday market through the lens of still life. The market is chock full of a variety of handmade items displayed in beautiful arrangements. Many of these pieces have unique shapes, colors, and textures that combine into intriguing “found” still life compositions. We’ll touch on perspective, angles, shape, and shading to enhance drawing techniques. You’ll have a chance to look deeply, identify engaging compositions, and develop drawing and sketching skills. Make a few quick sketches, or take your time and work to complete a more extensive work. As an added bonus, all participants will have an opportunity to do some private shopping during the last 20 minutes of the workshop.

Materials: 

Students should bring thefollowing supplies:

• 8 x 10” (or larger) Sketchbook or sketch paper and clipboard
• Pencil (No. 2 required, with 4B and 2H optional)
• Kneaded eraser
• Vinyl eraser (white)

About the instructor:

Susan was born and raised in Massachusetts where she was constantly drawing, painting and making

things. For thirty years she lived in Utah, Oregon, New Jersey, and Virginia before moving back to

Massachusetts to live in Reading. Susan earned a B.S. in Design from Brigham Young University, a

Post Baccalaureate Certificate from Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and a Museum Studies

Master’s Degree from Harvard Extension. In addition, she is a Certified Zentagle® Teacher. Her artwork

has been shown in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia.
