Description

In this single class with 2 instructors, you will learn how to condition polymer clay using a pasta machine! We will make various shades of color using the skinner blend that is a key technique in polymer art. Once we finish making color blends, we will experiment making a few basic canes including bulleyes, jelly rolls and a striped cane. We will then take a brief break for lunch.

In the afternoon, we will make beads using the canes you created in the morning. We will show you how to size your beads, roll by hand, as well as how to use beadrollers that are available in various craft stores.  Using your favorite set of beads, you will string a stretch bracelet. You will learn the surgeons knot, and we will secure the knot with superglue and cover it with a crimp cover (all materials are supplied). We will have a fun time creating and watching each other design unique items!

About the instructors:

Laurie Lloyd:

In addition to her detailed work in the medical technology industry, Laurie is a polymer artist who specializes in colorful floral beads and pens. She has been teaching polymer classes for a decade, and loves the open creative space that polymer classes provide. Her favorite part of the day is seeing the "wow moment" from her students when their work is finished.

Lynne M. Sole:

Working with Polymer Clay is one of my favorite hobbies. I started about 10 years ago when I joined

the Polymer Clay and Beading Guild at LexArt. The guild was a great learning experience and I learnt so many skills and techniques from the more experienced guild members who were very generous with their time. I continue to enjoy working with the vibrant colors and experimenting by combining polymer clay with other materials such as mic powders, acrylic and oil paints. I am active in the polymer clay community outside LexArt and have attending many retreats and workshops in the US and Europe. My work has been exhibited at LexArt and also the International Polymer Clay Association (IPCA). I enjoy teaching beginners and seeing the joy and excitement when they make their first bulls-eye cane.
