Madhubani art (or Mithila painting) is a style of Indian painting, practiced in the Mithila region of the Indian subcontinent. It originated from Madhubani district of the Mithila region of Bihar. Originally done in mural style, its heritage goes back at least 2500 years, mostly depicting mythological stories and celebrations of life like festivals, weddings etc. This painting is done with a variety of tools, including fingers, twigs, brushes, nib-pens, and matchsticks and using natural dyes, and pigments. It is characterised by its eye-catching geometrical patterns. Madhubani art has five distinctive styles: Bharni, Kachni, Tantrik, Godna and Kohbar. Madhubani has now become a globalized art form and recognized as one of ancient traditional art at international platform. These five different styles have been merged by contemporary artists today. This amazing art is still kept alive because of the efforts of many artists who continue to practice Madhubani Art and have passed on their expertise to their pupils.
I am an Ayurvedic Practitioner (Alternative Medicine) living in Weston, MA. My interest in art started as a young girl, when I started sketching the colorful local homes in my neighborhood, painting henna art and then graduated to oil paintings. I have worked with different mediums like oil paints, watercolor, acrylic, color pencils, etc. I also tried creating wood burning art. Ultimately my journey led me to Madhubani Art, and I have been engaged in this Art form for more than 6 years. I run both private online and in-person classes at Weston AIC and other locations. My art is often inspired by different mythological themes, still life, etc. and it's almost like meditation for me. Art gives me a sense of peace and happiness, and I hope this artwork displays that.
