The theme of rebirth, renewal, and (eventual) reemergence has been a part of the last 17 months in my home - and my artistic pursuits. The time at home meant a chance to to go deeper into studio work, and to reexamine and expand on ideas, techniques and new methods of achieving texture, color, and construction.
The Caged Butterfly pendant is one of two pieces, and this one represents the feeling of being ready to reemerge, but remaining trapped by circumstances.
This tab-set pendant features a back plate with an antique butterfly image, hand colored with china & enamel paints, and finished in a sugar-fired texture. The jewel-cut cage is hand-pierced copper with multiple coats of white enamel, high-fired to elicit the verdigris edge. The back has been coated in several layers of colors to achieve an antiqued look. The piece is signed on the back.
The 21" chain is a hand-forged & riveted copper chain with excellent movement - and it is remarkably comfortable, with a clasp that closes the chain at the top of the pendant for ease of wear.
Should they be selected, the pendants can be mounted on a frame for wall display or shown easel style on a table.
